The Switch
A switch in Ultimate is simply a recognition that it is a team sport.
The opponent does not score on you, they score on your entire team.
A successful switch is a three stage process...
1. Someone recognises that a switch is viable (or neccessary) and REQUESTS
a switch.
2. The Teammate identifies the rationale and has opportunity to switch
so CONFIRMS the switch
3. The switch OCCURS.

Remember that you don't want to run around if you don't have to and the
average player sprints 5 km per game. I only sprint 700 metres so
you must be sprinting over 9 km.
-
Switching is critical to compensating for slower players on your team.
Those players need to position themselves in toward the disc even more
than others, and if their player strikes deep, they will need help to prevent
a big gain or a score.
-
Switching works best on simultaneous deep and in cuts. You and your teammate
simply slow and wait for the other offensive player to come to you.
-
Switching can also be used left to right, but you have less time so you
need to be better at it before you'll be very successful.
-
Preparing for switches is important, but communicating on the field about
the switch and eveything else is an ultimate critical success factor.
